Pitch a Class

In light of the discussions occurring in Foundations and my desire for an ethical, mirror-like music education, and acknowledging that my strength is in early childhood, what I think music education could address well is the suddenly volatile student who is just becoming truly conscious.

So the middle schooler.

I'd like to see an offering at the middle school level that was a general music class that was truly designed with them in mind and what they need. It would

• address current events

• address social-emotional learning

• foster much-needed expression through musical creativity

• ask of them what they want, musically or otherwise, and provide musical opportunities to address those goals

• be a dealing-with-life forum
